The feral pigeon is a descendant of the domestic homing pigeon introduced to Australia for Europe in the 1700s. Several traits have allowed feral flocks to increase in numbers and dominate the urban landscape due to the availability of food, fresh water and secure breeding sites.

Many property owners do not realise their building has a feral pigeon problem. Tell-tale signs of a problem include pigeons frequenting the building, an accumulation of pigeon droppings on the building, blocking of drains and guttering by refuse from roosting and damage to air-conditioning and other roof top machinery. Deterrents to protect such equipment (right) are relatively inexpensive but very effective.

Innovative Pest Consultants specialises in the control of pigeons, particularly in the area of proofing buildings and erecting deterrents. Innovative Pest Consultants can inspect a property and provide solutions for any pigeon problem. These could include the sealing access points used by roosting pigeons and the erection of deterrents such as wire netting, coils and pigeon spikes to prevent landing or roosting on building surfaces. The photographs on this page illustrate some of the effective solutions we have implemented at various sites in the control and eradication of pigeons.
